What is included in an air/sea cruise?
The air/sea cruise vacation package
includes either free or much reduced airfare along with your cruise
ticket. These can be money-saving options and are available from
most major North American cities. They include transfers between
the airport and ship as well as baggage handling.
Am I obligated to purchase the cruise line's
air?
You are not obligated to purchase
the cruise lline's air and we recommend you to try and find better
airfare rates on your own or use frequent flyer miles you may
have Please understand that if you have any flight delays on flights
arranged apart from the cruise line, you are on your own to catch
the ship in the next port of call if necessary. Insurance would
protect a missed connection or travel delay claim. You are also
responsible for transfers to and from the airport.
What is an air deviation?
An air deviation allows you to pick
your airline and flights prior to making your final payment. There
is usually a $35 - $50 non-refundable fee per passenger for
this request. Cruise lines do their very best to get you to
and from your port of embarkation on the most direct and convenient
flights out of your airport gateway. When
you book your airfare through the cruise line, you will receive
your flight schedule 29 days prior to travel. Keep in mind, this
could be on any airline on any flight schedule that will affordably
get you to your port of embarkation before the ship sails.
Air deviations give you a lot of
flexibility. You have the ability to arrive early, stay extra
days at the end of a cruise, or maybe build in a stop-over. You
choose whether to fly business class or first class. This option
could work in your best interest.
Can my flight come into my embarkation port
early or leave later?
Yes, this is what makes air deviation
so flexible. You can come in up to 2 weeks prior to your cruise
departure or stay up to 2 weeks after your cruise. These requests
must be made in writing prior to your final payment and an an
air deviation charge will be added by the cruise line..
Can I get frequent flier miles for using the
cruise line's air?
Cruise lines try to use major commercial
carriers when booking your airfare, so you would qualify for frequent
flier miles. On more exotic itineraries, the cruise line reserves
the right to use a charter carrier.
Will my frequent flyer milage upgrade me to
a First Class ticket?
Most of the time you cannot be upgraded
to First Class using frequent flier miles. Due to the fact that
these tickets are usually lower than public fares, the airlines
will decline frequent flyer or mileage upgrades. Check with your
carrier once you we give you your flight schedule.
Will my frequent flyer ticket for my travel
companion be the same as mine if I purchase my ticket from the
cruise line?
Yes, you can. Simply confirm the
flights that you will get with your frequent flyer ticket. Inform
us those flights including flight numbers and times and we will
submit an air deviation request for those same flights. Keep in
mind the air deviation fee.
Do I get advanced seat assignments ?
If your are particular about your
seat assignments, you might want to consider an air deviation
just to secure decent seats on your plane. The kind of seats which
are left 2 weeks in advance may not be your preference. If you
can can handle a middle seat for then forget the air deviation. You
may want to seriously consider air deviation on very long flights.
If I decline an air deviation and then get
a flight I don't like, am I allowed to cancel my cruise?
You can cancel
your cruise but there may be subjected to penalties imposed by
the cruise line. These penalties are outlined in their brochures.
Not
liking your air schedule is not covered under cancellation insurance.
You may cancel your air after
its been assigned and try to get a better schedule on your own.
At this point you would then be refunded for the air costs of
your trip.
Are transfers to and from the ship included
when I purchase my own air?
Som ecuise lines will offer transfers
complimentary, but most charge about the same as a taxi ride to
and from the ship.Cruise lines are now offering one way and roundtrip
transfers to their cruise only passengers who book their own airfare.
These transfers include baggage handling to the ship.
What happens if I miss the ship because of
bad weather or mechanical problems?
When you book your own airfare, you
are on your own in getting to the next port of call. The cruise
line is not responsible. Your insurance bought separately from
the cruise line includes travel delay and missed connection features.
Please read everything because sometimes there are weather related
disclaimers.
When you book your airfare with the
cruise line, the cruise line should make the arrangements to get
you to the ship. They may or may not choose to reimburse you for
the unused portion of the cruise.
